“…for all people to be equal before the law, there must be equal access to the law”.
Yet today, too many people still cannot access the law, let alone justice.
Vast swathes of the population cannot obtain justice for civil, administrative, or criminal justice problems. In real terms, legal aid exists in name only, in practice, it covers only limited areas. Many people simply cannot afford legal advice and representation, or don’t know where to turn for help. That’s why the work of charities such as Citizens Advice provides a bridge to justice, but in order to do so they must raise huge funds to support their work.
Last evening, I had the privilege of attending “Melodies at the Manor” hosted by Simon Pryke and Kate Pryke who opened their beautiful surroundings in aid of Citizens Advice Bucks. For 85 years, Citizens Advice Bucks has been providing free, independent and impartial advice to millions of people every year in communities across Buckinghamshire.
But without government funding, they must raise over £500,000 every year to continue serving those most in need. This vital public service needs you!
