How did I spend my Saturday evening?
Delivering a keynote address at Cumberland Lodge as part of the Rule of Law Project, a multi-stage initiative aimed at young professionals and students (UK/Commonwealth) to deepen understanding of how laws are made, contested, and enforced.
I spoke about: “Making Justice Seen to Be Done: Putting Diversity at the Centre of the Rule of Law”.
At a time when the rule of law faces increasing pressure globally, the question of who sits in our courts, who makes our laws, and who has access to legal protection takes on a significance that extends far beyond a diversity and inclusion question.
It is a question about the strength of our democratic foundations and the trust and confidence placed in them by members of the public.
Investing in the public’s understanding of the rule of law is not optional; it is how we safeguard justice, democracy and public trust for the future. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen, understood, and trusted by all.
In your industry, what does ‘justice being seen to be done’ look like?
