The Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania organized a roundtable dedicated to the influences of French constitutionalism on the Romanian constitutional order.

The concerns and commitment of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania regarding research, legal culture, legal education, and the academic consortium have today brought to the forefront prominent members and guests from across the border, including the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Mr. President Acad. Ion Tighineanu.

” There are names in the history of law in which a decision changes not just a law, but the relationship between the state and human dignity. Robert Badinter is one of those names. Minister of Justice in France, lawyer and professor, he succeeded in abolishing the death penalty in 1981 — an act of legal clarity and moral courage that definitively marked European constitutional culture. His recent entry into the Pantheon of France confirms not only the importance of a man, but the power of an idea: human life cannot become a tool of power.

Building on this intellectual and moral legacy, the Public Law Department of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Romania organized a roundtable dedicated to the influences of French constitutionalism on the Romanian constitutional order. The presentation delivered by Professor Irina Moroianu Zlătescu opened a reflection on democratic foundations, the limits of power, and the role of public law in protecting human dignity.

The event was honored by the presence of academician Ioan Tighineanu, President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, alongside Prof. Dr. Ovidiu Predescu, Prof. Dr. Cristian Ionescu, and Prof. Dr. Claudia Gilia, a participation that highlights the academic and regional dimension of the dialogue.
