Urgent Reforms Needed for UK Criminal Courts: Leveson Review

Chair of the Justice Committee and Labour MP Andy Slaughter said:

“Sir Brian Leveson’s Independent Review is a very substantial piece of work that clearly demonstrates the magnitude of the problem at hand, namely the critical issues and unsustainable backlog across our criminal courts.

“As Sir Brian sets out, a ‘whole-system approach’ is recommended – one which encompasses structural reforms, as well as efficiency improvements, backed by the necessary funding – to turnaround unacceptable delays to justice for victims.

“It is imperative the Government provides a timely response to the full review, with the opportunity for scrutiny of any forthcoming legislation within a defined timescale. After years of neglect, the struggling criminal courts system can no longer wait.”
