There is something powerful and liberating about storytelling, sharing your story with others to move them into action, and empowering them with self-belief to not settle for less than, to know that they are more than, but that collectively we are a force for positive change.
This is my story. This is my song, words borrowed from the hymn “Blessed Assurance”, which was written by one of the most prolific songwriters of all time, Fanny Crosby, who died aged 95, having spent almost all of her life blind, but who didn’t allow her blindness to defeat her; instead, with passion and purpose, she shared her talent through writing songs which are still with us today, over a century after her death.
Last week, I had the privilege of visiting Harris Academy Clapham alongside ITV’s,
The Chase’s Shaun Wallace and Tom Lyas of Browne Jacobson, where I shared my story of resilience and determination—how I became president of The Law Society against the odds, after four attempts, shattering barriers along the way.
As Nelson Mandela said, “When we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.” By sharing our stories, we illuminate the path for others to follow.
So for today and every day, let your light shine.
