We are deeply concerned by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Board’s
decision to give the go-ahead to regulating CILEX members, if CILEX wishes to do so, despite
its own regulated community, and CILEX’s members objecting to the idea of regulatory change.
If CILEX decides to redelegate this responsibility to the SRA, it will irreparably change the legal regulatory landscape.
For the last two years, we have advocated on behalf of members opposing the proposal and raised concerns about
the negative impact on not only the regulated communities, but consumers of legal services and the wider public interest.
The change will cause consumer confusion, as it will be less clear which profession is which, and where different authorisations for practice areas apply.
