Four in 10 civil legal aid providers are planning to leave the sector in the next five years, according to a survey commissioned for the Government’s sustainability review. The survey also found that 42% of providers intend to leave or reduce their workload within the next 12 months. Many firms in the sector are dissatisfied with the fee system and struggle to build a quality workforce. The findings highlight the reliance of not-for-profit organisations on trusts and charitable donations for revenue. The report confirms the sector’s challenges and urges the Government to invest in civil legal aid to ensure the future of this vital public service.
