The President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) publicly expressed this key vision during a statement at the CNB Convention nationale des avocats 2026 in Toulouse, highlighting the role of the CCBE as an essential tool for the legal profession to exert influence across Europe.

Below is the full statement:
“It was a great pleasure to speak today at the CNB Convention nationale des avocats 2026 in Toulouse on the role of the CCBE as a fundamental tool for the legal profession to exert influence in Europe.
My central message was simple:
The CCBE does not replace national Bars. It multiplies their influence.
Our role can be summarised in five words:
We listen. We connect. We influence. We protect. We prepare.
From defending professional secrecy and the independence of lawyers, to contributing to the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer, engaging on the rule of law, and preparing our profession for artificial intelligence and digital justice, our strength comes from working together.
More than ever, lawyers must not simply adapt to decisions made at European level. We must be present when those decisions are shaped.
The purpose of the CCBE is not simply to follow Europe. It is to help shape Europe, according to the rule of law, human rights and the independence of the legal profession.
My sincere thanks to the Conseil national des barreaux for the invitation and for bringing together the French legal profession in Toulouse.”
