During the AEA-EAL / KIRP International Conference in Warsaw, CCBE President Roman Završek emphasized the vital importance of the new Council of Europe Convention for safeguarding the legal profession.
The discussions focused on strengthening essential guarantees for lawyers and bar associations, including professional secrecy, independence, freedom of expression, and protection against intimidation. Highlighting the pressures faced by lawyers worldwide, Završek called for strong cross-border professional solidarity.
As the CCBE President stated:
“The independence of lawyers is not a privilege granted to our profession. It is a safeguard for every citizen seeking justice. Whenever lawyers stand together across borders, they send a powerful message: an attack on a lawyer is an attack on justice itself.”

“Protecting lawyers means protecting justice.
It was a privilege to represent the CCBE at the AEA-EAL / KIRP International Conference in Warsaw.
As President of the CCBE, I had the honour of delivering the opening address and later participating in a panel on the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer.
My message was simple:
The independence of lawyers is not a privilege granted to our profession. It is a safeguard for every citizen seeking justice.
The new Convention strengthens essential guarantees for lawyers and bars, including professional secrecy, independence, freedom of expression and protection against intimidation and improper interference.
At a time when lawyers in many parts of the world continue to face pressure simply for doing their job, professional solidarity remains one of our strongest protections.
Whenever lawyers stand together across borders, they send a powerful message: an attack on a lawyer is an attack on justice itself.
