Roman Zavrsek: I am honoured to participate as a president of the CCBE in the Rule of Law High‑Level Conference organised by the Cyprus Presidency

I am honoured to participate as a president of the CCBE in the Rule of Law High‑Level Conference organised by the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 4–5 May in Nicosia.

As part of Panel III: Technology, Digitalisation and AI in Justice, I addressed how AI can be integrated into justice systems in a way that strengthens — not weakens — the Rule of Law.

My contribution focused on four essential questions:

• How to balance efficiency with fundamental rights

• What level of human oversight is necessary to safeguard judicial independence

• How transparency and explainability can be ensured in AI‑supported decision‑making

• How to maintain trust in justice in an increasingly digital environment Representing the CCBE, I underlineed the safeguards needed to ensure that digital transformation remains human‑centred, rights‑based, and fully aligned with the principles of justice and democratic accountability.

I look forward to future engaging with policymakers, judges, lawyers, academics, and experts from across Europe on this crucial topic.
