PUSHing for justice:
Last night, I had the privilege of delivering the Annual Christabel Pankhurst Lecture at
The University of Manchester School of Social Sciences.
To speak in Christabel’s name is both an honour and a responsibility. It is a reminder that every generation inherits not only the rights that others fought for, but also the unfinished work they left behind.
Christabel Pankhurst did not wait for permission to challenge injustice. She understood that progress is rarely comfortable, often contested, and always necessary.
The question for us is not whether change is needed, but whether we are prepared to carry that work forward, with courage, conviction, and clarity of purpose.
Because rights, once won, are not self-sustaining. They require vigilance, stewardship, and leadership.
