I. Stephanie Boyce FKC, FRSA: We cannot claim to unlock potential while continuing to define leadership in ways that lock people out.

This morning I am at Mansion House at the invitation of the Lady Mayor, Dame Susan Langley for a socio economic stocktake. To explore how broadening access to leadership can strengthen the UK’s financial and professional services sector.

The strength and reputation of the UK’s financial and professional services sector rests not only on its economic performance, but on the integrity, innovation, and inclusivity of its leadership.

As someone who has led a centuries-old institution through change, I’ve seen firsthand that broadening access to leadership is not just about fairness, it’s about equality of opportunity, trust, and long-term resilience.

We cannot claim to unlock potential while continuing to define leadership in ways that lock people out. Until we change who we consider to be leaders, we will continue to underestimate the full capacity of our people and our professions.
