As October approaches to ring in the new legal year, we say a massive thank you to Richard Atkinson, who concludes his term as president of the Law Society. @TheLawSociety

During our bicentenary year, Richard has not only led us through our 200th anniversary celebrations, but also steered some brilliant wins for solicitors across England and Wales. From strengthening our international relations to working to improve access to law for aspiring solicitors, all of which will positively shape the future of the profession.

Some of Richard’s highlights include:

🤝 Championing access to justice – securing legal aid rate increases, advocating for solicitors after the Legal Aid Agency data breach, and launching the 21st Century Justice report with bold reforms for a fairer system.

⚖️ Accompanying the Foreign Secretary and Business and Trade Secretary to promote English and Welsh legal services in Japan and officially signing an MoU between the Law Society and the Italian Bar.

⭐ From bustling cities to coastal communities, Richard embarked on an ambitious tour to celebrate our 200th year, meeting members across England and Wales and internationally.
