I. Stephanie Boyce FKC, FRSA: “AI may drive efficiency and cost savings, but it’s also redefining roles, workflows, and opportunities.”

The cost-saving potential of AI

I was intrigued to read today’s headline in The Times newspaper: “Entry-level jobs plunge by a third since launch of ChatGPT: Retail, IT and accounting and finance are among the worst hit sectors since the AI tool began operating in November 2022.”

This confirms what many of us have long suspected: the jobs market is shifting, fast. AI may drive efficiency and cost savings, but it’s also redefining roles, workflows, and opportunities.

The demand for AI skills is on the increase as AI investment is increasing. AI is transforming the way we live and work, business models are being fundamentally challenged.

So how are you preparing for what’s still to come?

Are you investing in reskilling, ethical frameworks, and inclusion?

Are you engaging with the disruption or simply reacting to it?

And as the success of AI startups soar should they be doing more to serve the public good, such as supporting access to justice, promoting social mobility and closing the inequality gap?
