As the week draws to an end and a week where we have experienced significant
wintry weather and freezing temperatures here in the UK, today Ofgem, the energy
regulator, has announced a further increase to the energy price cap of £21 for an
average household per year.
I am mindful that many consumers are already struggling to heat their homes and keep warm;
many have no home. Solutions must be found to ensure no one sits in a freezing home
because they can’t afford to or are scared to turn on their heat.
The knock-on consequences of fuel poverty are all ours to bear and a scorching indictment of us as a society.
