The Stormont All Party Group on Access to Justice has heard that the system of Criminal Legal Aid has reached crisis point.
Chair of the Bar of NI, Donal Lunny KC & Chair of the Criminal Bar Association, Gavan Duffy KC addressed MLAs on Tuesday.
They spoke of the unviability of criminal practice, with increasingly complex cases, renumeration unreflective of time & skill r
equired in cases, and lengthy payment delays all seriously impacting the ability of practitioners to offer access to justice.
The Bar, along with @LawSociety_NI colleagues advised MLAs of the crucial interventions required at this time, not least the
publication of the Independent Burgess Report and the urgent implementation of the report recommendations.
