Fom 7am on @BBCBreakfast our chair Tana Adkin KC will explain impacts of hundreds more newly charged defendants with offences related to riots entering our criminal courts to join case backlogs of over 450,000 including over 70,000 in the Crown Court cases more than double of just five years ago.
Criminal defence solicitors and barristers – who prosecute and defend – along with judges remain in short supply, all needed to advise and adjudicate on those arrested through to charge, plea – guilty or not guilty and thus trial and where relevant sentencing – despite @CPSUKfor now upping prosecutor capacity to process evidence post #riots and make charging decisions.
Swift justice needs swift and substantial investment into the qualified justice professionals expected to deliver justice daily in our criminal courts.
