#UK: @HMCTSgovuk responds to @lccsa search complaint. @CrimeLineLaw

.@HMCTSgovuk responds to @lccsa search complaint: “HMCTS have responded to our complaint letter of 23rd April 2024 and our letter in response to the appalling incident involving our member and colleague Mr Dele Johnson on 1st May 2024.

HMCTS have assured us that they take the safety of court users extremely seriously and are conscious of the needs of professional court users. We are also assured that all complaints are being investigated. We are given to understand that HMCTS hope to resolve these investigations as soon as possible and, in the meantime, additional management oversight of security searches have been put in place at Stratford Magistrates’ Court.

The issue of the behaviour of court security officers at this court is now under serious scrutiny at a high level, and we will be attending meetings with senior members of HMCTS to make our concerns known directly to them in the hope that positive changes can be made so as to avoid incidents such as that involving Mr Johnson and those that have already been the subject of complaint from happening again. HMCTS have already assured us that the practice of moving PUAS users to a secluded area for a “pat-down” search will no longer continue and these searches will take place in the main foyer.”
