#UNBR: The #LegalAidCoordinationDepartment of the National Union of Romanian Bar Associations launches an action plan aimed at monitoring the activity of legal assistance in criminal matters, of the judicial public aid system

The Legal Aid Coordination Department of the National Union of Romanian Bar Associations launches an action plan aimed at monitoring the activity of legal assistance in criminal matters, the judicial public aid system, legal aid and/or represent ation or extrajudicial assistance services, as well as legal aid services on international access to justice in civil matters and international judicial cooperation in this field Criminal.

Within this project to be implemented by UNBR, working meetings will be organized between representatives of bar associations, coordinators of legal aid services organized by them and representatives of courts and prosecutor’s offices attached to them. All interested lawyers are also invited to attend these meetings.

The working meetings will aim to analyze the activity carried out on the basis of the Protocol on establishing the fees due to lawyers for the provision of legal aid services in criminal matters, for the provision, within the judicial public aid system, of legal aid and/or representation services or extrajudicial assistance, as well as for the provision of legal aid services on international access to justice in civil matters and international judicial cooperation in criminal matters signed between the Ministry of Justice, the Public Ministry – the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the National Union of Romanian Bars, registered under no. 2/4880/08.02.2024, 226/C/08.02.2024 and 8-DCAJ-08.02.2024, identifying the problems faced by litigants, lawyers and, respectively, judicial bodies, in order to identify and implement efficient solutions aimed at ensuring free access to justice and effectively ensuring the right to defense, eliminating dysfunctions and increasing the quality of professional activity provided by lawyers.

In connection with the problems raised, with the solutions proposed during the meetings that will take place at all courts of appeal in the country, a report will be drawn up and will be submitted to the Standing Commission and, respectively, to the Council of the National Union of Romanian Bars, as well as to the Ministry of Justice and the Public Ministry – to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
